As you probably already know, there is no universal rule book. There are, however, some common pitfalls that are easily avoidable if you are aware of them.

Surround yourself with critics.

Just because you stick to your plan and budget, things may not always go as smoothly. Forecasts sometimes prove to be inaccurate. Leadership teams benefit from the inclusion of others who can speak up and point these things out.

Don’t get bogged down in bad meetings.

This doesn’t mean that you should stop attending meetings, but you need to be better at ensuring that meetings are effective. Begin by questioning the meeting’s purpose and background. Just by doing this, you will be able to strip away unnecessary parts. Does each meeting need to las a full hour or can you make the agenda sharper?

Choose your path. Frequently.

You cannot do everything all the time. Pick your battles and be aware of what tasks you can delegate and which responsibilities you can share.
